Munhwa XFPM Xylene-Free Paint Marker (Medium 4.5 mm) is an alcohol-based, opaque industrial paint marker built for plants that need a permanent, high-contrast mark without xylene. Made in Korea by Munhwa (Kangnam KPI Co., Ltd.), a specialist marker manufacturer since 1949, the XFPM delivers the bold coverage of a solvent paint marker with low odor and a materially lower health and VOC burden — so it can be used indoors, in confined spaces, and in facilities with solvent restrictions.
Sold as a 12-count box (1 dozen) in nine colors. Marks on virtually any surface: steel, stainless, aluminum, galvanized, plastic, rubber, glass, ceramic, stone, concrete and wood.
Key Features
- Xylene-free, toluene-free formula — alcohol-based opaque pigment ink. Minimizes health risk and is environmentally safer than traditional xylene paint markers.
- Low odor — safe for indoor use, enclosed shops, inspection booths and QC benches where ventilation is limited.
- Opaque, high-coverage pigment — bright, legible marks on dark, oily, rusty and light surfaces alike.
- 4.5 mm medium nib — the industry-standard general-purpose width. Wide enough to read from across a bay, controlled enough for part numbers and heat numbers.
- 10 ml ink capacity — long service life per marker, fewer changeouts on the line.
- Valve-action pump tip — shake, press, mark. Consistent flow to the last drop.
- Fade, water and abrasion resistant — survives outdoor yard storage, wash-down and handling.
- Nine colors including metallic Silver and Gold for dark or oxidized substrates.
Applications
- Welding & fabrication — heat numbers, weld maps, joint IDs, WPS callouts, cut lines on plate and structural steel
- Steel service centers & metal distribution — grade, heat and lot marking on bar, tube, coil and plate
- Foundry & machine shops — casting IDs, part routing, QC and witness marks, inspection stamps
- Warehouse & logistics — pallet, crate, drum and bin identification; rack and lane labeling
- Construction & precast — rebar tagging, form marking, concrete, stone and masonry layout
- Automotive & heavy equipment — tires, rubber, glass, body panels, chassis and VIN-area identification
- Shipyards & pipe fabrication — spool marking, fit-up references, hydro-test identification
- Facilities with VOC/solvent limits — food plants, pharma, electronics, cleanrooms, indoor assembly

Why Buy the Munhwa Line
- More ink for the money. At 10 ml, an XFPM carries roughly two to three times the paint of a standard 1/8" valve-action marker — fewer replacements, lower cost per mark.
- 76+ years of marker manufacturing. Munhwa has produced writing instruments in Korea since 1949 and is a dedicated marker specialist, not a general stationery house.
- Consistent, repeatable flow. Munhwa valve tips are engineered to prime quickly and stay wet, which matters when an operator is marking hundreds of parts a shift.
- A complete family. XFPM (xylene free), PM (oil base), PMM (permanent), SM Steel Marker (washable) and WBM (dry erase) share a common feel and quality standard, so one supplier covers the whole plant.
How to Use
- Shake the marker well with the cap on to mix the pigment.
- Remove the cap and press the nib down on a scrap surface several times until paint reaches the tip.
- Mark with light, even pressure. Re-prime with a short press when flow slows.
- Re-cap immediately after use to prevent the nib from drying.
Storage & Handling
- Store horizontally in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Keep capped when not in use. Shelf life is longest between 40 °F and 80 °F (5–27 °C).
- Keep out of reach of children. Refer to the manufacturer SDS for full handling guidance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this marker really xylene free?
Yes. The XFPM uses an alcohol-based opaque paint formula with no xylene and no toluene, which is why it is cleared for indoor and low-ventilation use.
Will it mark on oily or rusty steel?
It marks well on lightly oiled and mill-scaled steel. For heavily oiled or badly rusted surfaces, an oil-based marker such as the Munhwa PM or U-Mark 100P will bite harder.
Is the mark permanent?
Yes — permanent on most surfaces, and fade, water and abrasion resistant. If you need a mark that comes off, use the Munhwa SM Steel Marker or the U-Mark WASHOFF instead.
What is the difference between XFPM and PM?
Same 4.5 mm nib and 10 ml capacity. XFPM is alcohol based and xylene free (low odor, indoor safe). PM is oil based with xylene and gives maximum adhesion and longevity on harsh outdoor surfaces.
